Emphasising the importance of product care, especially for leather shoes, is a fundamental aspect of our commitment. At Regarde Le Ciel, our goal is to enhance the durability of our products by prioritising cleaning, protection, and maintenance, with a particular focus on the unique care required for naturally tanned leathers. By incorporating these practices, we aim to extend the lifespan of your leather shoes.

Extending the lifespan of leather items involves essential steps such as cleaning, protecting, and regular maintenance. Before proceeding with the following guidelines, it is crucial to ensure that your items are thoroughly dry both inside and outside.

General care tips for daily care of leather products.

Maintain the shape of your leather shoes. To preserve the shape of your shoes, consider using wooden shoe blocks or alternatively, wrapped-up newspaper. Shoe blocks are now available in various materials such as cedar wood, regular wood and plastic. Inserting the shoe blocks into shoes when they are not being used, will help them retain their shape.

For tall boots, insert boot stands to help maintain the shape of the shaft and preserve the condition of the zipper between wears.

Allowing leather shoes to air dry after each use, will minimise deterioration.

Salty stains. Salt stains, which often arise in the winter months, can result in white mark on the leather. To care for salt stains on leather shoes, wipe off any excess salt, gently clean with a damp cloth, and leave to air dry at room temperature. Ensure you avoid leaving your leather products near a heat source and direct sunlight.

Insert shoe blocks once partially dry in order to ensure it maintains its shape.

Apply leather conditioner after complete drying for optimal suppleness.

Storing leather products when not in use. When your shoes are not in use, here’s how to store them properly. Follow the “Maintain the shape of your leather shoes” section, and keep them in a cool, dry place. Avoid keeping them in plastic bags, and opt for more breathable, fabric bags. Allow for adequate air circulation, and apply leather conditioner every few months to preserve the shoes suppleness.

Damp or wet leather products. If your shoes get wet, promptly wipe off any excess water and fill the shoes with dry newspaper. The newspaper will absorb any water and humidity inside the shoe. Air dry at room temperature. Ensure you avoid leaving it near a heat source and avoid direct sunlight. Insert shoe blocks once partially dry to ensure the shoes maintain their shape.

Apply leather conditioner after the shoes are completely dry to ensure they maintain their suppleness.

Appearance of creases and scuff marks. When addressing creases and scuff marks on shoes, gently wipe away any scuffs, gently apply leather conditioner and air dry. Regular maintenance of creases and scuffs helps minimise their impact, and preserves the shoes' appearance for much longer.

Faded Leather and/or discolouration. When addressing leather discolouration, select a shoe cream with the closest pigment as the original colour of the shoe. Test shoe cream on a small, inconspicuous area before applying to the whole shoe in order to ensure a proper match. Apply the shoe cream evenly using a soft cloth, focusing on the discoloured areas. Buff gently to restore and ensure colour consistency..
